Elect Harvey Silverglate to the Harvard Board of Overseers

Who is Harvey Silverglate?

Harvey A. Silverglate, an advocate for civil liberties since graduating from Harvard Law School in 1967, is an attorney, writer, and non-profit activist. Currently practicing law with the Boston firm Zalkind Duncan & Bernstein LLP, Silverglate specializes in criminal defense, civil liberties, and academic freedom/student rights cases. In addition to his legal work, Silverglate has led a parallel writing career as newspaper columnist and book author.

Why is Harvey Running for the Harvard Board of Overseers?

Only Rip Van Winkle is unaware of the dire developments at Harvard in recent years, culminating in the multiple missteps of recently resigned President Claudine Gay after only a few months in office.

As a result of years of Harvard’s decline in terms of free speech, academic freedom, and fairness in disciplinary proceedings against students and faculty members, I’ve decided to make my third (and this time hopefully successful) run for The Board. I need 3,400 alumni signatures by January 31, 2024, raised significantly from 250 signatures that got me on the ballot in 2009. I seek your support and the support of other fellow Harvard alumni. Please add your contact and class information on my portal.

My policy positions are simple to state, but difficult to achieve: Abolish all speech codes. Provide fairness in disciplinary proceedings. Reduce the bureaucracy. Reduce tuition. If you need to know more about me, please go to the about section of my website.
